Mark Birchenhough

Mark Birchenhough is an Oxford graduate and has a masters degree in Management Science from Brunel.  Before becoming a consultant, Mark held management roles in operations with Cummins Engine Company.  His consulting career began with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, before working with Lloydmasters..  Mark specialises in working with clients in high-hazard industries to build leadership capability and strengthen organisational resilience against the threat of catastrophic failures.  His recent and current clients include BP, GSK, easyJet, British Airways and various rail operators. 

Mark has led, or participated in, a number of far-reaching assignments with over 40 blue-chip companies and has worked in over 30 countries across five continents.   Specific projects include the development of a new risk management framework for easyJet, a review of process safety management for GSK, which was followed by the design and delivery of a process safety leadership programme across its primary manufacturing operations, and the delivery, for BP, of its annual Global Suppliers Safety Forum since 2015, which brings together the CEOs of its top 50 upstream suppliers to develop common strategies for safety and risk management.

This work has often entailed developing partnerships with world-leading academics and specialists from organisations such as NASA and the UK Health and Safety Executive.  In recent years, Mark has set up or worked in joint ventures with institutions such as MIT, and Cardiff University Business School.
